Fish Tales

I must tell the story of my fishes' tragic demise. My poor fish, Oscar and John Doe (formally known as Charlie), died suddenly Friday evening. I tried to clean their tank, and they both went belly up in the process. I had Oscar since February. My poor, fat fish..

After my scarring experience, I decided I would invest in a more durable, "hardy" fish. Yes, my dear non-existent audience, I got a betta.

I went on quite the adventure to find the perfect betta. While at Walmart on Friday, I had looked at the bettas (that was before my fish tragically died). They had three brilliant red males.

I started my search early Saturday evening. Andrew (my good friend and fellow adventurer) started at Petco (where the pets go!). It took awhile to find it due to the fact that neither of us knew if it was in East Bay or on State St. When we did finally find it, we got a very good education on bettas, a betta care sheet, and an unexpected call from my father telling me I had to go home because I had locked him out. So there we were, in the midst of making an important fish decision, and I had to go home--fishless.

We finally made it home, let my father and brother in, and took my brother to his swim party. After that, it was off to Walmart. Petco had a outrageous lack of brilliant red bettas that I had seen at Walmart, but upon arriving at Walmart, we found that they only had female bettas left! Frustrated, Andrew and I left for home.

To my delight, Andrew decided we should go to Petsmart to look for bettas. To our dismay, they only had two Crowntail Bettas. So, it was off to Petco again.

At Petco they had a large array of bettas, but no brilliant red ones. It was very frustrating, but, after looking through all of the fish, I finally decided on a brilliant blue betta. The entire way back from Orem, Andrew and I brainstormed all of the names we could possibly think of. We narrowed it down to two. Andrew wanted Bently, and I wanted Damien. I finally won (seeing as it's my fish).

Damien the betta is a fantastic new addition to our family.

Girls & Furry Friends

This is the wonderfully silly song the YCLs (Kenna, Kajsia, Bailey, and I) sang for girls camp.

Earth, wind, fire, ice.
I must always strive to be nice.
I am just a girl.
I am not a boy.
And when I do the right thing
I play with my toy

I love girls camp. It is the very best.
It is so so so so much better, then the best.

Chorus:
Girls camp is good!
We get to eat food!
We are nice to the animals;
We are never rude.
Girls camp is fun!
Don't want to go home.
'Cause with all you hear and my furry friends
I know I'm never
Alone.

I love hiking, just not when it's hot.
So lets all hope it's
Not that hot.
I love our leaders, and also YCLs.
If they weren't here, camp wouldn't go to well
NO SIR!

I love girls camp. It is the very best.
It is so so so so much better, then the best.

Chorus

Our song was a hit. Kenna played guitar, I signed, we all echoed "ICE" throughout the whole thing, and we all sang the last chorus in monotone. Joyous occasion.

Things I Think About..

My chemistry teacher lied. He said that only nerds work in labs. I am pleased to report (to my non-existing audience) that after a few weeks of considering the possibility, I have come to the conclusion that he was indeed, wrong. One of the hottest guys works in my lab. To bad I work at BYU. That means that the youngest he could possibly be is 21. Oh joy..

Small and Simple Summer

The sweet smell of rain
and the cold touch of wet grass
on bare feet.
Watching a small plant
grow and finally burst forth
its first bloom.
The loud, rhythmic sound of a
lawn mower.
The soft wisp of a startled
sparrow taking flight.
Coming in from a hot day
and feeling the cold
air on your sun baked body.
The rush of a sudden breeze
whipping your limp hair
from your face.
The whizz of bike wheels
as a child speeds up to catch
friends ahead.
The cool, drippy popsicle
that parches even the most
dry of mouths.
Waking up late and,
knowing you have no where to
go or be,
turning over and
drifting back to my favorite
place--dream land.
The best of all these great things:
being with those
that you care for most.
Family and Friends.

You Know It's Summer..

You know it's summer when your mother makes you get up at six to sell some old junk at a yard sale. It was definitely NOT my idea of fun on a saturday morning--it sets my entire day back. Twelve hours later, all I have done is eat breakfast and sleep! I still need to shower AND clean AND I need to do that before I do anything else tonight. Why can't everyone run on the same internal clock as me?

Flashback

Open on a typical, spring walk in the park. The birds are singing, bees buzzing, and I'm sitting on the edge of the abnormally high Hobble Creek with one of my best buddies, Andrew. Silly Andrew: monotone voice and exceptionally funny and unexpected comments. We had just finished talking about something, I don't recall what, and were sitting silently listening to the river when Andrew suddenly says, "Is that a BEAVER?"
You can never tell when Andrew is being serious or kidding, so I start to teasingly say no when I look up to see a mass of fur dip back into the river. It WAS a beaver!!
When we were younger, we used to tease our friend Marie Terry and tell her there was a beaver living in the Hobble Creek. She was always terrified. Turns out, we were right...

Summer Days

Summer days are filled with outdoor activities. Among those is yard work--weeding. I did that today. I helped clean up Spring Creek Park for THREE HOURS! Actually, it was about an hour. After that Julie and I got bored and made dandelion crowns, drooled and the indescribably hot Chase, and then left early. I think it was a fine day to make up three hours of detention.
